1864
This lady wears a silk taffeta skirt trimmed at the hem with a ruched fabric trim. Her skirt, a relatively straight-fronted crinoline which extends to the rear of the dress, foreshadows the coming straighter lines. Her basqued velvet jacket features the new 'masculine (read: tailored) coat-sleeve, and is trimmed at the armscye seam and at the lower hem with acorn-style bobble fringe and military-style braid. The lady wears her hair flat on top with two large rolls of hair at either side of her head, framing her face. Large, deep ringlets curl behind her ears, and she wears a small, decorative hat of rose buds perched between the two topmost rolls of hair. This lady also wears a simple choker at her throat, this of white lace.
